League One: tonight’s goals shortlist
Tuesday 20 October 2026 · All 11 fixtures kick off at 19:45 BST · Europe/London
FootyStats MCP fixture and odds snapshots: 20 October 2026, 15:49–15:50 BST.
The evening’s picture
Blackpool–MK Dons, Cambridge–Wycombe and Stevenage–Plymouth form the provisional over-1.5-goals shortlist. All 11 scheduled matches are covered below. Fixtures were checked against the subscribed-league MCP response and League One fixture listings.
Decision: pending, for paper tracking. No selection has passed the full PBT Market Fit gate. Confirmed lineups, complete availability information and independently checked executable prices are missing. A high estimated hit rate alone does not establish value.
Accumulator Strategy · three selections
The selection count was unspecified, so this report uses three separate fixtures. Each leg needs at least two total goals in normal time, including stoppage time.
- Blackpool v Milton Keynes Dons — over 1.5 goals: 1.17; provisional model 84.9%; evidence confidence 6/10.
- Cambridge United v Wycombe Wanderers — over 1.5 goals: 1.23; provisional model 80.3%; evidence confidence 6/10.
- Stevenage v Plymouth Argyle — over 1.5 goals: 1.29; provisional model 79.9%; evidence confidence 6/10.
Combined indicative odds: 1.8564 ≈ 1.86. Source: BetVictor quotes carried by FootyStats match-details snapshots. Quote publication times are unavailable; these prices were verified in the feed, not directly on the bookmaker’s bet slip.
Assuming independent outcomes, the model gives 54.5% for all three legs, versus a simple price break-even rate of 53.9%. This small apparent difference is insufficient to establish an edge given model and lineup uncertainty. Shared model errors can affect every leg.
Stress test: an early goal helps; a 0–0 first half leaves time but reduces the remaining opportunity; an unexpected missing striker weakens the case. A 0–0 or 1–0 finish loses its leg. Remove a leg if team news materially weakens either attack rather than adding a replacement for the sake of a treble.

Individual match breakdowns
Form runs from oldest to newest; W = win, D = draw, L = loss. Last-five figures cover league matches at all venues. Venue records cover the current season only.
Doncaster Rovers v Stockport County
Stockport bring the momentum, but the draw deserves cover. Their recent wins support an away-side lean; the modest venue scoring records argue against assuming a runaway victory.
Recent form: Doncaster Rovers LLWWL — 6 points, 6 scored/6 conceded; Stockport County LDWWW — 10 points, 8 scored/5 conceded.
Venue evidence: home side 4 scored/4 conceded in 4 home games; away side 7 scored/3 conceded in 4 away games. MCP head-to-head sample: 8 meetings; home team 1 win, 2 draws, away team 5 wins.
Provisional selection: Stockport or draw · estimate 68.4% · evidence confidence 5/10 · indicative odds 1.25. Projected score: 1–1 (12.7% for that exact score). Model goal means: 1.15 home / 1.36 away.
Availability: No current match-specific injury or suspension list was verified. Both confirmed starting XIs are absent from the MCP snapshot. Do not interpret missing information as a full-strength squad.
Risk: Doncaster have conceded only four goals in four home league games. A compact contest or an early home goal could blunt the away advantage. Market Fit: pending. FIS / PCS: not scored; required contextual inputs are incomplete.
Burton Albion v Bradford City
Bradford arrive with defensive momentum: one goal conceded across their last five league matches. Double chance gives that resilience room to work without demanding another outright win.
Recent form: Burton Albion DWLLD — 5 points, 6 scored/8 conceded; Bradford City WWDDW — 11 point, 5 scored/1 conceded.
Venue evidence: home side 10 scored/9 conceded in 5 home games; away side 4 scored/3 conceded in 5 away games. MCP head-to-head sample: 8 meetings; home team 4 wins, 1 draw, away team 3 wins.
Provisional selection: Bradford or draw · estimate 61.4% · evidence confidence 4/10 · indicative odds 1.29. Projected score: 1–1 (12.3% for that exact score). Model goal means: 1.38 home / 1.31 away.
Availability: Sports Mole, 18 October: Finn Delap is reported doubtful/unavailable for Burton. The same preview also lists him in a possible XI, so this is unresolved; no injury adjustment is applied. Bradford availability is unverified.
Risk: The venue-goals model is much less enthusiastic than recent form and bookmaker prices. Bradford have scored only four goals in five away league games; Burton can keep this competitive. Market Fit: pending. FIS / PCS: not scored; required contextual inputs are incomplete.
AFC Wimbledon v Mansfield Town
Wimbledon’s home defensive record and Mansfield’s away struggles create a statistical home-side angle. It is a narrow lens, however: Wimbledon’s latest outing ended in a 5–0 defeat.
Recent form: AFC Wimbledon WDDLL — 5 points, 3 scored/8 conceded; Mansfield Town LDDWD — 6 points, 5 scored/5 conceded.
Venue evidence: home side 2 scored/0 conceded in 4 home games; away side 3 scored/10 conceded in 4 away games. MCP head-to-head sample: 8 meetings; home team 2 wins, 4 draws, away team 2 wins.
Provisional selection: Wimbledon or draw · estimate 80.4% · evidence confidence 4/10 · indicative odds 1.67. Projected score: 1–0 (15.2% for that exact score). Model goal means: 1.50 home / 0.79 away.
Availability: No current match-specific injury or suspension list was verified. Both confirmed starting XIs are absent from the MCP snapshot. Do not interpret missing information as a full-strength squad.
Risk: Major disagreement: the model gives home-or-draw 80.4%, while the three-bookmaker no-margin benchmark gives about 54.9%. Treat this as a model warning and exclude it from the accumulator. Market Fit: pending. FIS / PCS: not scored; required contextual inputs are incomplete.
Cambridge United v Wycombe Wanderers
Two attacks with recent momentum meet at the Abbey. Over 1.5 goals allows a competitive 1–1 as well as a more open contest, avoiding the need to pick the winner.
Recent form: Cambridge United WDDWW — 11 point, 7 scored/4 conceded; Wycombe Wanderers WWDLW — 10 points, 9 scored/8 conceded.
Venue evidence: home side 8 scored/6 conceded in 5 home games; away side 6 scored/8 conceded in 4 away games. MCP head-to-head sample: 14 meetings; home team 2 wins, 4 draws, away team 8 wins.
Provisional selection: Over 1.5 goals · estimate 80.3% · evidence confidence 6/10 · indicative odds 1.23. Projected score: 1–1 (11.0% for that exact score). Model goal means: 1.68 home / 1.34 away.
Availability: No current match-specific injury or suspension list was verified. Both confirmed starting XIs are absent from the MCP snapshot. Do not interpret missing information as a full-strength squad.
Risk: Cambridge have conceded only four goals in their last five. An early lead followed by a controlled, low-tempo second half could leave the match at 1–0. Market Fit: pending. FIS / PCS: not scored; required contextual inputs are incomplete.
Bromley v Leicester City
Leicester’s stronger away return earns the directional lean, while double chance protects against a stubborn Bromley response. This is protection against uncertainty rather than a claim of dominance.
Recent form: Bromley LDWLL — 4 points, 5 scored/8 conceded; Leicester City LWDLW — 7 points, 8 scored/12 conceded.
Venue evidence: home side 3 scored/9 conceded in 4 home games; away side 6 scored/5 conceded in 4 away games. No previous meetings are recorded in this MCP head-to-head sample; this is not proof the clubs have never met.
Provisional selection: Leicester or draw · estimate 71.6% · evidence confidence 5/10 · indicative odds 1.22. Projected score: 1–1 (11.4% for that exact score). Model goal means: 1.22 home / 1.64 away.
Availability: No current match-specific injury or suspension list was verified. Both confirmed starting XIs are absent from the MCP snapshot. Do not interpret missing information as a full-strength squad.
Risk: Leicester have conceded 12 goals in their last five league matches. Bromley can exploit that vulnerability; the short double-chance price offers limited compensation. Market Fit: pending. FIS / PCS: not scored; required contextual inputs are incomplete.
Huddersfield Town v Peterborough United
Huddersfield’s stronger home return meets a Peterborough side with only four goals in five away league matches. Home-or-draw follows the venue evidence without insisting on a home win.
Recent form: Huddersfield Town DLWDW — 8 points, 8 scored/5 conceded; Peterborough United DLLWD — 5 points, 6 scored/7 conceded.
Venue evidence: home side 9 scored/4 conceded in 4 home games; away side 4 scored/9 conceded in 5 away games. MCP head-to-head sample: 12 meetings; home team 5 wins, 3 draws, away team 4 wins.
Provisional selection: Huddersfield or draw · estimate 77.7% · evidence confidence 6/10 · indicative odds 1.17. Projected score: 1–1 (10.9% for that exact score). Model goal means: 1.81 home / 1.07 away.
Availability: No current match-specific injury or suspension list was verified. Both confirmed starting XIs are absent from the MCP snapshot. Do not interpret missing information as a full-strength squad.
Risk: Peterborough recently won 3–1 at Leicester. That attacking upside can travel, and an early away goal would test Huddersfield’s control. Market Fit: pending. FIS / PCS: not scored; required contextual inputs are incomplete.
Stevenage v Plymouth Argyle
The winner is hard to separate, but the goals route has room to breathe. Both sides have scored eight times in their last five league games, making two total goals a more flexible proposition.
Recent form: Stevenage WWLWL — 9 points, 8 scored/5 conceded; Plymouth Argyle WLWWL — 9 points, 8 scored/6 conceded.
Venue evidence: home side 6 scored/5 conceded in 4 home games; away side 10 scored/7 conceded in 5 away games. MCP head-to-head sample: 9 meetings; home team 1 win, 1 draw, away team 7 wins.
Provisional selection: Over 1.5 goals · estimate 79.9% · evidence confidence 6/10 · indicative odds 1.29. Projected score: 1–1 (11.2% for that exact score). Model goal means: 1.47 home / 1.52 away.
Availability: No current match-specific injury or suspension list was verified. Both confirmed starting XIs are absent from the MCP snapshot. Do not interpret missing information as a full-strength squad.
Risk: Each side has also failed to score twice in its last five. If both struggle to create early chances, an apparently lively fixture can become a single-goal contest. Market Fit: pending. FIS / PCS: not scored; required contextual inputs are incomplete.
Oxford United v Wigan Athletic
Oxford’s recent scoring record provides the initiative; Wigan’s one goal in five league games provides the counterweight. Home-or-draw keeps the selection broader than an outright Oxford win.
Recent form: Oxford United WWDWD — 11 point, 11 scored/3 conceded; Wigan Athletic LDLLW — 4 points, 1 scored/6 conceded.
Venue evidence: home side 6 scored/3 conceded in 3 home games; away side 2 scored/5 conceded in 4 away games. MCP head-to-head sample: 8 meetings; home team 3 wins, 1 draw, away team 4 wins.
Provisional selection: Oxford or draw · estimate 75.4% · evidence confidence 5/10 · indicative odds 1.25. Projected score: 1–1 (12.1% for that exact score). Model goal means: 1.56 home / 1.01 away.
Availability: Sports Mole, 18 October: Peter Kioso and Gatlin O’Donkor are reported suspended for Oxford; Aidomo Emakhu is reported injured. James Carragher is reported suspended for Wigan. These reports lack primary-source confirmation here; no numerical adjustment is applied.
Risk: Reported Oxford suspensions and injuries require confirmation. Wigan won their latest match 1–0, and Oxford’s venue sample contains only three completed home games. Market Fit: pending. FIS / PCS: not scored; required contextual inputs are incomplete.
Luton Town v Barnsley
Recent defensive concessions make two total goals plausible, but a familiar team name should not disguise Luton’s own poor run. The goals angle is stronger than a confident home-win narrative.
Recent form: Luton Town DLLWL — 4 points, 7 scored/7 conceded; Barnsley LLDLL — 1 point, 4 scored/14 conceded.
Venue evidence: home side 5 scored/4 conceded in 4 home games; away side 4 scored/7 conceded in 4 away games. MCP head-to-head sample: 10 meetings; home team 5 wins, 2 draws, away team 3 wins.
Provisional selection: Over 1.5 goals · estimate 74.1% · evidence confidence 5/10 · indicative odds 1.08. Projected score: 1–1 (12.2% for that exact score). Model goal means: 1.50 home / 1.14 away.
Availability: No current match-specific injury or suspension list was verified. Both confirmed starting XIs are absent from the MCP snapshot. Do not interpret missing information as a full-strength squad.
Risk: Barnsley have scored only four goals in five games. At an indicative 1.08, over 1.5 demands a much higher success rate than this provisional model estimates. Market Fit: pending. FIS / PCS: not scored; required contextual inputs are incomplete.
Notts County v Sheffield Wednesday
Wednesday’s unbeaten away record and Notts County’s struggling attack support the visiting side. Covering the draw respects Wednesday’s three draws in their last five league matches.
Recent form: Notts County DLLLL — 1 point, 2 scored/8 conceded; Sheffield Wednesday WDDDW — 9 points, 9 scored/3 conceded.
Venue evidence: home side 4 scored/5 conceded in 4 home games; away side 8 scored/5 conceded in 4 away games. MCP head-to-head sample: 6 meetings; home team 1 win, 0 draws, away team 5 wins.
Provisional selection: Wednesday or draw · estimate 67.4% · evidence confidence 5/10 · indicative odds 1.33. Projected score: 1–1 (11.9% for that exact score). Model goal means: 1.29 home / 1.50 away.
Availability: Sports Mole, 18 October: Notts County reportedly remain without Matty Platt, Lewis Macari, Dean Campbell and Emile Acquah. Wednesday reportedly remain without Sil Swinkels, Tyler Onyango, Jordi Liongola and Louie Barry. Current status is unconfirmed; no numerical adjustment is applied.
Risk: Wednesday remain vulnerable to a low-event draw or an unexpected home opener. Their model double-chance probability is below the simple break-even rate at the quoted price. Market Fit: pending. FIS / PCS: not scored; required contextual inputs are incomplete.
Blackpool v Milton Keynes Dons
The strongest goals signal comes from Bloomfield Road. Blackpool’s home games and MK Dons’ away games have both carried substantial scoring and concession totals, giving over 1.5 several routes to success.
Recent form: Blackpool LDLLL — 1 point, 5 scored/12 conceded; Milton Keynes Dons DDDLW — 6 points, 7 scored/10 conceded.
Venue evidence: home side 9 scored/7 conceded in 4 home games; away side 6 scored/8 conceded in 4 away games. MCP head-to-head sample: 6 meetings; home team 3 wins, 1 draw, away team 2 wins.
Provisional selection: Over 1.5 goals · estimate 84.9% · evidence confidence 6/10 · indicative odds 1.17. Projected score: 1–1 (9.7% for that exact score). Model goal means: 1.86 home / 1.50 away.
Availability: No current match-specific injury or suspension list was verified. Both confirmed starting XIs are absent from the MCP snapshot. Do not interpret missing information as a full-strength squad.
Risk: Blackpool have failed to score in their last two league matches. Historical meetings also lean lower-scoring, so the venue trend should not be mistaken for certainty. Market Fit: pending. FIS / PCS: not scored; required contextual inputs are incomplete.
What the numbers mean
Coverage: FootyStats returned 54 subscribed-competition matches for 20 October in one page. Filtering resolved League One season 17180 produced 11 fixtures. All three season-fixture pages were retrieved: 552 records, including 114 completed matches before tonight’s kickoffs. Future, postponed and incomplete games were excluded from calculations.
Provisional probability model: this is an exploratory independent Poisson model, not the established PBT FIS or a calibrated production forecast. League means are 1.5088 home goals and 1.3333 away goals per completed game. Each venue scoring/concession rate is shrunk using three league-average pseudo-matches: (observed goals + 3 × relevant league mean) / (venue games + 3). The home goal mean is the average of the home scoring rate and away concession rate; the away mean uses the converse. Selection probabilities sum the applicable score probabilities. No player, tactical, red-card, opponent-strength or time-decay adjustment is applied.
Exact scores: the displayed score maximises the individual Poisson score probability. Ten fixtures share 1–1 as their modal score because the estimated means mostly lie between one and two goals; their overall home/draw/away distributions still differ. Exact-score estimates are only about 10–15%, so they should not be read as likely certainties.
Evidence confidence: a separate provisional editorial grade, not PCS and not a probability divided by ten. The ceiling is 6/10 because venue samples contain only three to five matches and lineups are unconfirmed. Consistent broader-market evidence receives 6; mixed or price-sensitive evidence receives 5; material model/market conflict receives 4. Wimbledon and Bradford are downgraded for disagreement. Oxford is downgraded for reported availability issues and its three-match home sample.
PBT methodology retrieved: Strategy 5 v2.0, retained in Situation(20261016-185935).pdf. FIS weights are stakes/incentives 18%, availability 22%, recovery/travel 15%, tactical fit 15%, club environment 10%, information integrity 10% and market intelligence 10%, using category scores of 0/25/50/75/100. FIS is contextual evidence quality, not win probability. PCS is a separate structured market-confidence score, not a calibrated percentage. Neither is calculated here because the required dossier and lineup information are incomplete.
Market cross-check: home/draw/away prices from BetVictor, Pinnacle and bet365 in the same match-details response were converted to reciprocal probabilities, normalised within each bookmaker to remove proportional margin, then averaged. This benchmark flags disagreement; it is not added to the Poisson model. Head-to-head samples can include older seasons and cup games, so they provide background only.
Data limitations: current-season venue samples are small. Top-level aggregate odds and bookmaker-specific comparison quotes sometimes differ; only the named BetVictor comparison quotes are used in the accumulator. Retrieval time is not the bookmaker’s price-update time. Missing injury fields are unavailable, never zero. Reported absences above remain unconfirmed and are not model adjustments.
Sources, without external links: FootyStats MCP league list, dated matches, match details and all League One season-fixture pages; EFL and independent fixture listings; PBT Strategy 5 v2.0; Sports Mole previews for Oxford–Wigan, Burton–Bradford and Notts County–Wednesday, published 18 October 2026 and accessed 20 October. The Oxford preview describes the Mansfield match as Saturday, whereas MCP dates it Thursday 15 October; current availability therefore needs confirmation. The Burton preview’s Delap inconsistency is also unresolved.
