The strongest stories tonight
Barnet bring the clearest contrast in home and away performance: 10 goals scored in four home league games against a Swindon side yet to score in five away fixtures. Exeter and Northampton offer a different route, with modest home scoring and strong defensive records supporting cautious goals markets.
The proposed four-selection accumulator combines Barnet to win, York–Accrington over 1.5 goals, Exeter–Crewe under 3.5 goals, and Northampton–Tranmere under 3.5 goals. Its feed-listed combined price is approximately 2.50 decimal. The model does not establish a clear overall value advantage at that price.
Read the estimates correctly
FIS: The complete established PBT methodology, including applicable component scoring rules, could not be verified. FIS remains unavailable for every fixture; no substitute FIS has been created.
Selection probability: An exploratory, unvalidated independent-Poisson model is used. For each team, the expected-goals input is the average of:
- The mean of its venue-specific goals scored per game and its opponent’s venue-specific goals conceded per game.
- Its FootyStats pre-match xG input.
For example, Exeter’s input is ((4 ÷ 5 + 2 ÷ 5) ÷ 2 + 1.51) ÷ 2 = 1.055 goals. Crewe’s is 0.865, giving a combined goal expectation of 1.92. The model estimates under 3.5 goals at approximately 87%.
These are model estimates, not calibrated success rates. Home and away samples contain only four or five matches per team. Opponent strength, changing tactics, red cards and confirmed squad availability are not explicitly modelled.
Confidence /10: A separate editorial assessment of evidence strength: 1–2 very weak; 3–4 limited; 5 mixed; 6 reasonably supported; 7 strong agreement with material gaps; 8–9 robust and independently corroborated; 10 exceptional evidence. Ratings are not probabilities. No selection exceeds 7 because samples are small and squad information is incomplete.
Projected scores: Illustrative modal scorelines from the same model. They are much less likely than the broader betting selections and carry no separate high-confidence claim.
Odds: Prices below were observed in FootyStats’ bookmaker comparison at 15:53 BST and attributed there to BetVictor. They were not independently checked at bookmaker checkout; original quote timestamps are unavailable. Availability and prices can change.

Individual match breakdowns
Availability applying to every fixture: MCP line-up fields were empty when retrieved. Confirmed injuries and suspensions were not established. No team is assumed to be fully fit. Tactical comments below are statistical interpretations, not verified formations or manager instructions.
Season goals and venue records are calculated from completed 2026/27 League Two matches returned across all three fixture pages. Recent results below are from 17 October, with selected earlier results where useful. H2H records are the provider’s available historical sample and may span different squads and divisions.
1. Exeter City vs Crewe Alexandra — 19:45
Selection: Under 3.5 goals · Model 87% · Confidence 7/10 · Projected score 1–0.
Exeter’s season has been played in narrow corridors: six scored and six conceded in 11 league games. At home, they have scored four and conceded one across five matches. Crewe’s five away games have produced four scored and two conceded.
Exeter drew 0–0 at Colchester last time out, following consecutive 1–0 victories. Crewe beat Rochdale 3–2, demonstrating that their recent attacking form can break a low-scoring pattern. Their last five league games produced nine goals.
H2H: Exeter lead 5 wins to 1, with 2 draws in 8 available meetings; 7 of 8 finished below four goals. The statistical reading favours a contest where Exeter’s defensive control restrains Crewe rather than an open exchange.
Risk: Crewe’s attacking momentum and combined pre-match xG of 2.74 challenge the unusually low venue goal totals. Under 3.5 has room for three goals, but an early breakthrough could change the game.
2. Northampton Town vs Tranmere Rovers — 19:45
Selection: Under 3.5 goals · Model 84% · Confidence 7/10 · Projected score 1–0.
Northampton have scored six and conceded seven in nine league games. Their four home fixtures contain only two goals scored and two conceded. Tranmere’s five away games are less restrained: five scored and nine conceded.
Northampton won 2–0 at Grimsby on 17 October; Tranmere lost 2–1 at home to Barnet. The home side’s low-event record provides the foundation, while Tranmere’s away defending is the main threat to it.
H2H: Northampton are unbeaten in six available meetings, winning four. Five of those six finished under 3.5 goals. The pre-match xG inputs total 2.24, supporting a measured rather than explosive contest.
Risk: Northampton’s home sample is only four games. Tranmere recently conceded four at Chesterfield, so the visitors can be drawn into a much more open match.
3. York City vs Accrington Stanley — 19:45
Selection: Over 1.5 goals · Model 80% · Confidence 7/10 · Projected score 1–1.
York have scored 18 and conceded 12 in ten league games. Their home record supplies the stronger attacking signal: 13 scored and four conceded in five matches. Accrington have scored four and conceded eight across five away fixtures.
York drew 1–1 at Newport last time out; Accrington beat Gillingham 3–1. York have scored nine in their last five league matches, while Accrington have scored six.
H2H: All three available historical meetings produced at least three goals, although that is a tiny sample. Current venue data and pre-match xG of 1.81 versus 1.32 provide a firmer basis for seeking two goals rather than choosing a winner.
Risk: Accrington have recently recorded 0–0 draws at Oldham and against Newport. Their ability to slow a match matters more than the old high-scoring H2H sample.
4. Barnet vs Swindon Town — 19:45
Selection: Barnet to win · Model 67% · Confidence 7/10 · Projected score 1–0.
Barnet have scored 22 and conceded 12 in nine league games, including ten scored and five conceded in four home fixtures. Swindon have scored ten and conceded 15 overall; away from home, they have scored none and conceded nine in five matches.
Barnet arrive after a 2–1 win at Tranmere and have collected 13 points from their last five league games. Swindon drew 1–1 with Walsall and have taken two points from their last five. Pre-match xG also favours Barnet, 1.83 to 0.85.
H2H: Barnet have two wins, Swindon three, and there is one draw across six available meetings. Current evidence is more supportive of Barnet than that older record. The match narrative is sustained home pressure against a visiting attack struggling to contribute on its travels.
Risk: Barnet conceded in every one of their last five league matches. Swindon’s away scoring drought will eventually end, and a 1.45 price requires approximately 69% success to break even—slightly above this model’s estimate. Strong comparative form does not establish value.
5. Chesterfield vs Colchester United — 19:45
Selection: Over 1.5 goals · Model 86% · Confidence 6/10 · Projected score 2–1.
Chesterfield have scored 17 and conceded 15 in 11 league games. Their five home matches contain ten scored and seven conceded. Colchester have scored five and conceded ten in five away fixtures, giving the home attack a promising statistical platform.
Chesterfield lost 1–0 at Port Vale last time out, but scored nine across their last five league games. Colchester drew 0–0 with Exeter and have scored four in their last five.
H2H: Ten of 13 available meetings produced at least two goals; the historical average is 3.08. Chesterfield’s pre-match xG of 2.31 is the strongest home attacking input on this slate.
Risk: Colchester’s limited attacking output can leave Chesterfield needing to supply both goals. The model’s high estimate rests on small venue samples. No BetVictor price was returned for this market, so it is excluded from the same-bookmaker accumulator calculation.
6. Gillingham vs Port Vale — 20:00
Selection: Under 3.5 goals · Model 80% · Confidence 6/10 · Projected score 1–0.
Gillingham have scored 16 and conceded 13 in 11 league games; their five home matches contain six scored and four conceded. Port Vale have scored five and conceded nine in nine games. Away, they have scored once and conceded eight in four fixtures.
Gillingham lost 3–1 at Accrington after previously winning 4–1 at Rotherham. Port Vale have won their last two league games 1–0, against Chesterfield and Grimsby.
H2H: Eight of ten available meetings finished under 3.5. Combined pre-match xG is 2.46. Port Vale’s limited away scoring encourages a restrained goals position rather than trusting an away-win price.
Risk: Gillingham’s two most recent matches both reached four or more goals. Port Vale’s poor away defence also creates a route to a one-sided high score.
7. Walsall vs Oldham Athletic — 19:45
Selection: Walsall or draw · Model 78% · Confidence 6/10 · Projected score 1–0.
Walsall have scored 13 and conceded seven in ten league games. Their four home matches contain five scored and two conceded, delivering 2.00 points per game. Oldham have scored 13 and conceded 14 overall, but only two scored and seven conceded in four away matches, worth 0.25 points per game.
Walsall drew their last three league fixtures 1–1. Oldham beat Cheltenham 4–1 on 17 October, a reminder that their attacking threat is stronger than the away record alone suggests.
H2H: Walsall lead 11 wins to 8, with 7 draws in 26 available meetings. Double chance allows for Walsall’s recent tendency to share points while retaining their venue advantage.
Risk: Oldham’s emphatic latest victory could signal improvement. Walsall’s draw-heavy recent record supports protection but weakens the case for an outright home win.
8. Bristol Rovers vs Salford City — 19:45
Selection: Over 1.5 goals · Model 86% · Confidence 5/10 · Projected score 1–1.
Bristol Rovers have scored 15 and conceded 18 in 11 league games. Their five home matches contain ten scored and six conceded. Salford have scored 17 and conceded 11 overall, with ten scored and eight conceded in five away fixtures.
Rovers lost 1–0 at Shrewsbury and have scored only three in their last five league games. Salford beat Crawley 2–1 and have won five successive league games, scoring ten.
H2H: Only two of four available meetings reached two goals. Current venue goal rates and combined pre-match xG of 3.53 favour a more open game, but the older record and Rovers’ current attacking slump reduce evidence confidence.
Risk: The model is more optimistic about goals than Rovers’ recent scoring suggests. Its high numerical estimate should not disguise that disagreement.
9. Crawley Town vs Shrewsbury Town — 19:45
Selection: Over 1.5 goals · Model 76% · Confidence 5/10 · Projected score 1–1.
Crawley have scored nine and conceded 17 in nine league games. At home they have scored three and conceded eight in four matches. Shrewsbury have scored ten and conceded 15 overall; their five away games contain three scored and nine conceded.
Crawley lost 2–1 at Salford after drawing 2–2 with Chesterfield. Shrewsbury beat Bristol Rovers 1–0 following a 1–0 defeat to Exeter.
H2H: Six of eight available meetings produced at least two goals. Both venue defensive records offer a path to goals, without requiring either modest attack to dominate.
Risk: Shrewsbury’s away scoring rate is only 0.60 per game. A cautious contest between two vulnerable sides remains plausible, and the short price does not offer an established model edge.
10. Rochdale vs Grimsby Town — 19:45
Selection: Under 3.5 goals · Model 75% · Confidence 5/10 · Projected score 1–1.
Rochdale have scored 13 and conceded 15 in 11 league games, including eight scored and six conceded in five home matches. Grimsby have scored 13 and conceded 13 overall; away, their five games contain five scored and seven conceded.
Rochdale lost 3–2 at Crewe last time out. Grimsby lost 2–0 to Northampton and have scored four across their last five league fixtures.
H2H: All three available meetings finished under 2.5 goals. That supports restraint, but three matches offer little statistical security. Combined pre-match xG is 2.50.
Risk: Rochdale’s latest five-goal match and their home scoring mean this is a cautious lean, rather than an accumulator priority. Historical matchups may not represent the current teams.
11. Cheltenham Town vs Fleetwood Town — 19:45
Selection: Over 1.5 goals · Model 73% · Confidence 5/10 · Projected score 1–1.
Cheltenham have scored 17 and conceded 20 in 11 league games. Their five home matches contain nine scored and eight conceded. Fleetwood have scored 12 and conceded 11 overall, with five scored and seven conceded in five away fixtures.
Cheltenham lost 4–1 at Oldham; Fleetwood beat Rotherham 2–0. Cheltenham’s home scoring gives them a route back into the contest, while their defensive record makes relying on a clean sheet difficult.
H2H: Eight of ten available meetings produced at least two goals. The pre-match xG inputs total only 2.31, tempering the more encouraging venue goal totals.
Risk: Cheltenham have scored just once in their last three league games. The model’s 73% estimate is below the 80% break-even rate at 1.25, so the supported market lean is not a demonstrated value bet.
12. Rotherham United vs Newport County — 19:45
Selection: Under 3.5 goals · Model 71% · Confidence 5/10 · Projected score 1–1.
Rotherham have scored 12 and conceded 18 in 11 league games. Their five home matches contain eight scored and ten conceded. Newport have scored 14 and conceded 13 overall, with four scored and eight conceded in five away fixtures.
Rotherham lost 2–0 at Fleetwood and have scored three in their last five league games. Newport drew 1–1 with York and have scored four in their last five.
H2H: No historical meetings were returned by the provider. This is an unavailable sample, not evidence that no previous meeting has ever occurred. Combined pre-match xG is 2.43, supporting a restrained lean.
Risk: Rotherham’s home matches average 3.60 total goals, directly challenging the under selection. Recent attacking weakness supports it, but the conflicting evidence keeps this out of the accumulator.
Accumulator Strategy
Four selections from four separate fixtures. The requested selection count was left as a placeholder, so four has been used as a practical default.
| Fixture | Selection | BetVictor feed price |
|---|---|---|
| Exeter City vs Crewe Alexandra | Under 3.5 goals | 1.20 |
| Northampton Town vs Tranmere Rovers | Under 3.5 goals | 1.22 |
| York City vs Accrington Stanley | Over 1.5 goals | 1.18 |
| Barnet vs Swindon Town | Barnet to win | 1.45 |
Combined decimal odds: 1.20 × 1.22 × 1.18 × 1.45 = 2.504904, approximately 2.50.
Why these four: Exeter and Northampton provide defensive foundations with a three-goal allowance. York’s home attack supports a modest two-goal threshold. Barnet contribute the clearest comparative team-strength selection, with Swindon’s away scoring record the key supporting evidence.
Joint probability: Approximately 39% when multiplying the unrounded model probabilities and assuming independence. This is a provisional calculation, not a calibrated forecast. Common model errors can affect several legs together.
Price assessment: Odds of 2.504904 require approximately 40% success to break even. The model’s joint estimate is slightly lower, so this report does not identify a positive expected-value edge for the accumulator at the observed price. It is an evidence-led shortlist rather than a claim that a bet must be placed.
Illustrative return: A £10 stake would return approximately £25.05 including stake, or £15.05 profit, if every leg wins and that combined price is accepted.
Increased risk: Every leg must succeed. Accumulators carry increased risk, and returns are not guaranteed.
