Best three candidates
Millwall v West Ham
Both teams are 7/7 for a first-half goal, while all relevant Millwall home and West Ham away matches have also cleared the line. West Ham away first halves average 2.33 goals, giving this fixture the cleanest profile.
Risk: the price may be too short to justify pre-match exposure; Millwall’s home first-half goal average is only 1.00 despite the perfect hit rate.
Wrexham v Southampton
Southampton have cleared the market in every league fixture, and both sides remain perfect in the relevant home/away split. The two venue samples each average 1.33 first-half goals.
Risk: Wrexham’s overall first-half goal average is only 1.14 and the venue sample is still very small.
Birmingham v Middlesbrough
Every relevant Birmingham home and Middlesbrough away match has contained a first-half goal. Birmingham’s home first halves average 2.33 goals, giving the pairing a strong volume anchor.
Risk: Middlesbrough away first halves average only 1.00 goal and perfect venue records can reverse quickly in four-match samples.
Recommended execution
Secondary qualifiers: Stoke–Sheffield United has excellent goal volume but Sheffield United’s hit-rate split is the contradiction. Burnley–Derby has strong hit rates but low relevant venue goal volume. Portsmouth–Blackburn is the most balanced of the three, though Blackburn’s away rate is only 67%.
Suggested stake: 0.5 unit on each verified priority selection and 0.25 unit on any secondary qualifier that also passes the line-up check. Maximum combined exposure: 2.0 units. Avoid combining all qualifiers in one accumulator.
Live trigger, minutes 8–25: consider entry only with at least four total shots by minute 15, one shot on target, repeated penalty-area entries or dangerous set pieces, no long disruption, and a live price that still clears the remaining-time value test.
How the model was applied
The ranking uses the strategy’s first-half-goal logic: current overall hit rate, home/away hit rate, first-half goal volume, scoring/conceding balance and situational/data-quality controls. Missing verified xG, shots, confirmed line-ups and live bookmaker prices are treated as uncertainty rather than invented inputs.
Minimum odds = 1 ÷ (model probability − 3 percentage points)
The Poisson input uses the average of the two relevant first-half venue goal averages, shrunk halfway toward the current Championship baseline. FIS then applies judgement for contradictions, sample size and unavailable line-up information. This explains why Burnley–Derby’s FIS is below Stoke–Sheffield United despite a higher raw probability. Probabilities are estimates, not guarantees.
Sources and timestamp
Fixture list and kick-off times were verified against Sky Sports Football Scores & Fixtures. Current 2026/27 first-half tables, overall/venue Over 0.5 rates and first-half goal averages were taken from SoccerStats Championship half-time statistics. Data checked 19 September 2026 before the scheduled kick-offs.
Odds were not independently available as a complete timestamped market snapshot, so the report states minimum acceptable prices instead of claiming a current value bet. Recheck prices and confirmed teams 45–75 minutes before kick-off.
